Privacy Policy

The short version: when you tap a Howzit placard, we record which buttons were tapped and any star rating or note you choose to leave, without your name. We share that with the business so they can improve. We never sell personal information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
Howzit Reviews ("Howzit," "we," "us") makes tap-to-open pages for local businesses. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to howzitreviews.com, the business pages that open when you tap a Howzit placard, and our sign-up form.
Information we collect
When you tap a placard or visit a business page
- Page activity: which business page and placard were opened, which buttons were tapped (Menu, Specials & Events, or Review), and the date and time.
- Star ratings and notes: if you rate a business, we record your star rating. If you rate 1 to 3 stars, you can choose to leave a note about why. Notes are optional.
- Technical information: like nearly every website, our hosting and service providers automatically receive basic technical details, such as your IP address and browser type, when your phone loads a page.
We don't ask for your name, email, or phone number on business pages, and we don't use cookies or advertising trackers on them. Please don't include personal details, like your name or phone number, in a feedback note unless you want the business to have them.
When a business signs up
- Business details: business name, phone number, website, address, Google review link, page colors, and the photos you upload (such as a storefront photo and a menu).
- Contact details: the name, email address, and phone number of the person signing up, plus any notes they add.
How we use information
- To show each business's page, including its photos, menu, specials, and contact details.
- To send customers to a business's Google review page when they choose to leave a review.
- To create monthly reports for each business, showing page visits, button taps, star ratings, and feedback notes.
- To set up, bill, and support the businesses we work with, and to contact them about their service.
- To keep our service working properly and improve it.
How we share information
- With the business you rated or visited: they see their page activity, star ratings, and any feedback notes left on their page.
- Publicly, for businesses: the business name, photos, menu, phone number, and website shown on a business's page can be seen by anyone who opens it.
- With service providers that run our service: Netlify hosts our website, and Google provides the tools we use to store information, save photos, run our pages, and send email. They handle information on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.
- When required by law: if we must respond to a valid legal request or protect the rights and safety of others.
We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
When you tap the Review button and continue to Google, you leave our site. Anything you post on Google is covered by Google's own privacy policy and is public on Google.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as we need it to provide our service and keep business records. If a business cancels, we turn off its page and can delete its details and photos on request.
Your choices
- Ratings, notes, and button taps are always optional.
- You can ask us to see, correct, or delete information about you by contacting us below. Because we don't collect names from customers, tell us the business, the date, and what you wrote so we can find your rating or note.
Security
We use reputable providers and limit access to the information we keep. No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children
Our service is meant for businesses and their adult customers. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the effective date above.
